Discovery

Discover art, experience history, explore nature, and improve your health and fitness by taking part in Mercy Medical Center's Steps2Health* program! The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art has teamed up with other organizations in the Linn County area to create a comprehensive walking tour of Cedar Rapids. A general map of all participating locations can be found below.

The CRMA map (coming soon!) will allow visitors to walk with Grant Wood on a self-guided tour to see Cedar Rapids through his eyes and works.

Walking with Grant Wood
In less than five miles, you can feel the life-long influences found in the work of this incredible artist. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art holds the largest collection of his art; 3 blocks east, tour the Grant Wood Studio to stand exactly where he painted American Gothic; take a self-guided 2.5 mile walking tour of the Mound View Neighborhood where he grew-up. Nearby view the Cherry Building near Czech Village and compare it today to his paintings of yesterday; notice his architectural touches at Brucemore; visit the Veterans Memorial Coliseum to see his exquisite stained glass memorial to our veterans. The Stewart Memorial Library at Coe College sits adjacent to his old neighborhood and holds other works by Wood and by his contemporary and friend, Marvin Cone.

Walking maps and more information can be found at each organization's Web site.
