Dance, Dance, Dance: The Dancer in Art

In conjunction with the 35th anniversary celebration of the University of Iowa's Hancher Auditorium and the concurrent free performance tour of the Joffrey Ballet, including their performance in Cedar Rapids at Brucemore on July 6, the CRMA will present an exhibition focusing on the dancer in art.

Many works for this exhibition will be drawn from the CRMA's extensive collection of images of dancers, both known and unknown. Abraham Walkowitz's obsession with Isadora Duncan and Malvina Hoffman's close relationship with Anna Pavlova both resulted in numerous works with these two important early twentieth-century dancers as the subject. Visitors to the Museum are already familiar with Malvina Hoffman's Bacchanal Frieze which permanently graces the Carnegie Library. The collection possesses numerous other dance-themed works by Marvin Cone, Mauricio Lasansky and others.
