Charles Barth: A Kaleidoscope of Culture
Charles Barth: A Kaleidoscope of Culture
September 8, 2012 - January 5, 2013
A retired faculty member in the Art Department at Mount Mercy University where he taught for more than 30 years, Chuck Barth currently splits his time between his studios in Cedar Rapids and Oaxaca, Mexico. Both a painter and a printmaker, Barth’s work is strongly influenced by the Mexican culture he sees all around him during his six months there every year. Pulling from the rich and diverse images in the popular culture of Mexico, Barth creates new tableaus, rich in color and full of vitality. This solo exhibition, his first at the CRMA since 1991, coincides with the recent release of a major monograph on his work, Charles Barth: A Kaleidoscope of Culture, which gives the exhibition its name.
This exhibition is supported in part by the Momentum Fund of The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
