Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

September 18  at the Hiawatha Public Library from 6:30-7:30

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it also has a lot to do with the beholder's cultural standards. Images of today’s beauty idols like the Kardashians, Beyoncé, and hundreds of Instagram celebrities are omnipresent in society. But before our media-soaked age it was largely artists who documented the beauty archetypes of the time. Join CRMA Associate Curator Kate Kunau to look at how ideal beauty has changed in Western society throughout time, from ancient Rome to the twentieth century. This program complements the CRMA's exhibition, "Figure Study: The Body in Art."
