"The Wood Problem" docudrama and panel discussion

The Grant Wood Art Colony will present a staged reading of an excerpt from the original docudrama, The Wood Problem, on Thursday, November 9 at 6:00 p.m at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.

This original docudrama about Grant Wood by Iowa Playwright Workshop’s Scott Bradley will be followed by a panel discussion with Bradley, University of Iowa Art History Professor Joni Kinsey, and Grant Wood Art Colony founder Jim Hayes. In the docudrama’s creation, Bradley uses archival research about Iowa’s most famous artist, Grant Wood, to create a new work of art. Guests will have the opportunity to see many of Wood’s works of art in the museum’s Grant Wood exhibition before they travel to New York to be included the Whitney’s Grant Wood: American Gothic and other Fables exhibition (March 2—June 10, 2018).

The event is presented in partnership with the Iowa Arts Council and State Historical Society of Iowa, both divisions of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, as they celebrate the intersection of arts and history in Iowa in honor of their 50th anniversary and 160th anniversary, respectively.
