CRMA Summer Art Camp 2018

CRMA Summer Art Camp 2018

June 18-22, 8:30am to noon

$125/members, $150/nonmembers

This year’s CRMA Summer Art Camp theme is inspired by our summer exhibition, The Grand Tour: Europe Through Artists’ Eyes. Camp will feature projects for your child in a range of media, spanning centuries, and highlighting the culture, landscape and peoples of several European countries.

We’re partnering with the Ceramics Center & Glass Studio again this year. While we’re there, we’ll work on majolica pottery projects and—a first in CRMA camp history—fused glass projects!

Neumann Monson Architects will be here to teach us about the architecture of Ancient Rome, and then we get to build arches and columns… and later we’ll create ruins! HA!

Dance instructor Carol Rezabek will show us some of the traditional ballet poses while we sketch them in pastels, just like Edgar Degas.

The Cedar Rapids Opera will teach us a little about what goes into a performance—and it’s interactive!

Two local artists will show-and-tell their en plein air works created during their world travels. Tara Moorman and Julia Kottal have both been featured in the CRMA’s exhibitions over the years, and they’re both very familiar with “arting on the go”. Not only will we get to do a bit of watercolor en plein air painting with Tara in the park, but Julia will show us how she creates her watercolor “sketches” while traveling, digitizes them, and then uses those as a guide to create her oil paintings.

There will also be a ton of awesome stuff to see in the galleries, and we’ll “travel” all over the building and even into Greene Square across the street with our art supplies and our camp passports.

CRMA Summer Art Camp is for children who are completing grades 1-5 this spring. We only have a few spots left, so contact Education Director Erin Thomas for more information or to reserve your child’s spot.
