"One" artist Michael Wilson Meet-and-Greet

Meet Michael Wilson amongst his works in his one-man exhibition, One Man, One War, One Hundred Years on Sunday 11/11/18 at 12 pm. Wilson was inspired after finding WWI pictures and memorabilia that belonged to his great-uncle. This exhibition distills the Great War to the level of one man and the history he shared with his young great-nephew. Wilson’s rich, sepia-toned oil paintings of his great-uncle’s experiences are accented with red poppies to emphasize the lives lost. Free with paid gallery admission; veterans get in free with ID. The exhibition runs through December 31st.

This program is held in conjunction with the Veterans Memorial Commission Museum & Gallery, who are holding their annual Veterans Day Service at 10am. The 2nd Avenue entrance, lobby and galleries of the Veterans Memorial Building (50 2nd Ave Bridge in Cedar Rapids) will be free and open to the public from 9am to 2pm, featuring Grant Wood’s 23 ½-foot-high stained glass “Memorial Window” commemorating US servicemen, as well as Marvin Cone’s “Duty, Honor, Country” which he painted during WWI while stationed at Camp Cody.
