Spring Gallery Tour


It’s Spring! Time for the Spring Art Gallery Tour on Friday, April 4th
 
One of the area’s harbingers of spring, the Spring Art Gallery Tour, will be Friday, April 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will include the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.  The five metro area galleries that will be taking part are ARA Gallery, Campbell Steele Gallery, CornerHouse Gallery and Frame, The New Apple Creek Gallery, and Wiederspan Gallery.  Always a great event, the self-guided Spring Art Gallery Tour allows each gallery to showcase the best they have to offer in fine art.  The galleries will host a variety of artists; have live music and demonstrations, as well as complimentary food and drink. 

Campbell-Steele Gallery, located in Historic Downtown Marion, will be featuring the works of John Thein.  The artist is on the art faculty at Creighton University. For the past decade, he has explored the culture and history of the American Indian in his oil paintings and watercolors.  John received his MFA from the University of Iowa where he studied with the renowned artist and teacher, Mauricio Lasansky. CornerHouse Gallery and Frame will be featuring the works of artists Nancy Lindsay and Anne Nye. Nancy Lindsay, a Cedar Rapids landscape artist who often paints en plein air, will be doing painting demonstrations in the gallery on the night of the tour. Anne Nye is an Omaha artist creating vibrant fused glass bowls, plates, and glass sculptures. CornerHouse recently expanded its line of giftware, added several new jewelry artists, and will be featuring many works in glass, pottery and wood.  CornerHouse Gallery and Frame is located at 2753 First Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids. ARA Gallery & Interiors will be showcasing new artwork from some of their featured artists, including some brand new sculptures from Haziza, one of the gallery’s main artists. The New Apple Creek Gallery, under new ownership, will be featuring new works from various artists at this springs’ Gallery Tour. Apple Creek Custom Framing and Gallery can custom frame anything! The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, visitors will have a chance to visit all the exhibitions in the CRMA galleries after hours, including the special exhibition Malvina Hoffman: Rodin's Last Student. This exhibition features Auguste Rodin's masterpiece, Claude Lorrain, courtesy of the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation-which possesses the nation's largest collection of Rodin sculpture. Through April 20 only, visitors will be treated with a visual conversation between Rodin's masterpiece and more than 30 works by Hoffman from the Museum's collection. Visitors will also be able to travel abroad with American Artists Abroad, 1900-1950. Admission to the Museum will be free this evening. Appetizers will be served and the Museum Store-which features a variety of items and works of art created by local artist-will also be open.
