Doodlers Drop-In series: Teens & tweens, drop in to doodle with us on Thursdays this summer. For a couple of hours each week we’ll get together and draw or sketch. Bring the materials you like to use, and we’ll provide a few other media to try out. If you’re interested in low-commitment art projects that can be as public or anonymous as you wish, even if you don’t consider yourself an artist but you have the creative ‘bug’ to produce something, this is for you. These weekly sessions are just for fun, to inspire you. You can share your work with others or look through your peers’ work when you meet up. You can join in at any time, and attend as many of the drop-ins as you like, and invite your friends to come with you. (But no grownups allowed!) It’s free! Barbara Bernier is a self-taught paper marbler and has been producing marbled paper for more than 20 years. Practicality is a way of life for Barbara, so while the designs and colors are visually exciting, it is imperative to her that the papers also serve a useful purpose. Like any hand-crafted or handmade paper, marbled paper is a unique piece of art on its own. However, Barbara often uses the visually-stunning paper in book bindings and handmade journals to add an elegant look and feel.   more >>

Drawing from the CRMA’s deep collection of Hoffman’s work, this two-gallery exhibition explores her lengthy and varied career as a sculptor of the human form. From her early bust of her father Richard to her famous commission from the Field Museum to create their “Hall of Man,” Malvina Hoffman: A Sculptor’s Journey traces Hoffman’s artistic roots from her teenage creations through apprenticeship with Auguste Rodin and into her arrival as an independent and gifted artist.   more >>

Create an accordion book, a diorama book, or a waterfall book. You’ll start off with an old book that you can cut apart and add things to, creating something completely new and totally customized with your own artwork. You can use your book to tell the story of your summer vacation, your family tree, a fairy tale you love, or anything else your imagination can come up with. Tears Beneath My Skin Documentary

Wrapping Ourselves in God's Love, a support group of African-American breast cancer survivors, will present their documentary "Tears Beneath My Skin". Additionally, they will display the sister quilt they created. Each panel of the quilt depicts the story of a cancer survivor. A book Embracing the Sunrise of Every New Day filled with inspirational words from survivors will be available. Gaye Shannon- Burnett will lead a discussion after the documentary as well as discuss the creating of the quilt and book. Funding for this event has been provided by Living Proof Exhibit.   more >>

"The Wood Problem" docudrama and panel discussion

This original docudrama about Grant Wood by Iowa Playwright Workshop’s Scott Bradley will be followed by a panel discussion with Bradley, University of Iowa Art History Professor Joni Kinsey, and Grant Wood Art Colony founder Jim Hayes. In the docudrama’s creation, Bradley uses archival research about Iowa’s most famous artist, Grant Wood, to create a new work of art.
