Artists have been drawn to forests for centuries, finding great stimulation in wooded spaces.  Forests can represent many things; they can be places of fairy tale enchantment, of haunting and danger, a metaphor for the mystery of the subconscious, a place of industry, or simply a place to celebrate the beauty of nature’s bounty.  In literature, entering a forest is often the beginning of a voyage of self-discovery and this three-gallery exhibition examines how a variety of artists interpret and respond to the forest in both 2D and 3D media. Drawn from the permanent collection.

This exhibition is made possible by the Diamond V Corporate Fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.  Exhibition season support has been provided by the Hotel-Motel Tax Fund, the Program Grant Fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, members of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and contributors to the Museum’s Annual Fund.
