Joanne Ribble:  Artist and Advocate

Community volunteer, arts advocate, and Museum supporter, Joanne Ribble (1931-2012) was less well known as an artist in her own right.  Equally adept at painting and drawing, Ribble held both a bachelor of fine arts degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and a master of fine arts degree from the University of Iowa.  Born in Fargo, North Dakota, she worked as a fashion designer in St. Louis, Atlanta, and Chicago before moving to Cedar Rapids.  Always active in the local arts scene, Ribble was first elected to the Museum’s Board of Directors in 1981 and later served as a member of the Board of Trustees.  She served on the Board for much of the past 30 years and, along with her husband Don (1930-2015), always remained actively involved with the Museum.

An accomplished artist, Ribble was extremely modest about her artwork and many did not know that she had not only received extensive formal training but was also actively making work throughout her entire life, creating a formidable portfolio.  On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of her birth, this exhibition celebrates a side of her life that she kept relatively private and introduces visitors to another side of this extraordinary woman.

This exhibition is made possible by the Marvin Cone Art Club and Candace Wong.  Additional support has been provided by the Hotel-Motel Tax Fund, the Program Grant Fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, members of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and contributors to the Museum’s Annual Fund.

I was just searching for this inoomratifn for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your web site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this kind of informative websites in top of the list. Usually the top websites are full of garbage.
