May 22 - September 19, 2010

Local collectors Tom and Nan Riley have been quietly creating an extraordinary collection of European art of the late 19th and the early 20th centuries.  With significant but little-known works by Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissaro, Chagall, Cassatt, Dufy, Matisse, Léger, Mondrian, Miró, Dali, Braque, and Picasso, the Riley Collection has become one of the most significant private collections in the state of Iowa.  These European masterworks join works by local artists Grant Wood and Marvin Cone, infusing a bit of American art into the collection.  The exhibition shares, for the first time, this extraordinary collection with the public.

This exhibition is sponsored in part by the Momentum Fund of The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.

My husband just popped in this evening before getting dinner out and simply LOVED seeing this amazing collection--just the right size of so many gems. Thank you, Mr. Tom and Ms. Nan Riley!

Like a secrect brought to light. How refreshing to find out such a secrect. I wonder how many other Iowans hold such treasures...I wonder how many Iowans are the treasure themselve being undisocvered artists that will one day be collected and put on display. Art is essential to our lives...may this truth come back to light one day itself as we hear this fact in this exhibit.

I think the Mondrian is so surprising. I am not familiar with his early work....
