CRMA to Partner with Chalk the Walk for Norman Rockwell Work
Cedar Rapids, Iowa—The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) is excited to partner with Chalk the Walk on Saturday, October 3 at the Downtown Farmer’s Market on the corner of 4th Avenue and 2nd Street to create a chalk mural of Norman Rockwell’s work Election Day.
Join us from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for your chance to take part in this activity and color in your own square on the mural! Participants will use pastels to create vivid, distinctive art on the pavement. This process is based upon an original art form call “Maddonnari,” which began in Italy in the 16th century. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. This event is free and open to the public!
The original watercolor of Norman Rockwell’s Election Day can be seen at the CRMA through January 3, 2010 in the exhibition Norman Rockwell: Fact & Fiction. This exhibition uses five, newly conserved and restored watercolors, an oil painting from the Norman Rockwell Museum, along with numerous photographs taken by local photographer Wes Panek, to investigate the many facts and fictions associated with Rockwell's visit to Cedar Rapids and this set of watercolors.
The CRMA would like to thank the Cedar Rapids Downtown District and Chalk the Walk for helping us to make this activity possible. For more information, please visit www.crma.org or call 319.366.7503.
