Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Partners with he Ceramics Center

November 09, 2009

Cedar Rapids, Iowa— The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) and the newly opened Ceramics Center have partnered in an effort to foster closer ties between the two organizations and to further engage the community. The CRMA and the Ceramics Center will work cooperatively to encourage the members of both institutions to explore the opportunities each has to offer.

The Museum of Art has a long-standing tradition in the community of providing programs, which engage and educate visitors to the Museum through its collection, exhibitions and programs.

The Ceramics Center, which opened its doors this past September, provides facilities and a wide variety of programs in both clay and warm glass – for all ages and ability levels. It offers classes and workshops for children and adults, open and private studio rentals for interested amateur and professional artists, outreach programs in the Cedar Rapids Schools and an Artist Residency Program for emerging ceramic artists.

The Details: The heart of the agreement is that members of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art will receive a 10% discount on their first class at the Ceramics Center. At the same time, the Ceramics Center will offer to its members and patrons “two-for-one” admission coupons to the Museum of Art. These passes will let two adults (over 18) go to the Museum for the price of one - a savings of $5.

According to Ben Jensen, the Ceramics Center’s Director, “We’re very pleased to be partnering with the Museum - and see this agreement as only the first step in what we hope will be a long and mutually beneficial relationship between our two institutions.”

Registration for the classes will be handled through the Ceramics Center in the same manner as all other Ceramics Center class registrations. To receive the discount, CRMA members will be asked to show their CRMA membership cards when registering for their course at the Center.

"It is exciting that we are now able to encourage our members to take classes at the Ceramics Center in clay and warm glass, since these are two artistic areas that the Museum of Art is not capable of teaching,” says the CRMA’s Executive Director, Terry Pitts. “The facilities at the Ceramics Center are truly first-rate.”
