Learn About the Technique of Foil Printing at the CRMA on Saturday!

January 04, 2010

Cedar Rapids, Iowa—The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) is excited to present Michelle Fischer as the next local artist in the Creative Connections series on Saturday, January 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

You won’t want to miss out on this event! It is FREE and open to the public. For more information, please call 319.366.7503 or visit www.crma.org. Michelle Fischer will demonstrate foil printing. Foil printing or imaging is the process of hot stamping roll leaf to a variety of substrates for the purpose of creating fine art.

Foil, or roll leaf, is a product used in commercial printing to produce an unusual palette of metal finishes of gloss, matte, blind embossed and pearl images on paper. It may stand alone as an art form, or it may be used with traditional printing techniques such as intaglio, lithography, relief and serigraphy. By incorporating roll leaf into a printed image, the artist looks for expression that is impossible to realize when using other traditional techniques.

Michelle has studied this technique under Virginia A. Myers, at the University of Iowa for three years, in addition to a Masters of Art from Iowa in Design and a minor in Sculpture.

The CRMA’s series Creative Connections: Artists in Action is a collaborative effort between the CRMA and local artists to reach and teach non-artists about the artistic processes. Come and learn from the pros, see how work is down and what it really takes to make great art. You are sure to discover “hidden treasures” among local artists who are creating truly amazing art. Come see some of their work and hear just how they do it!

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Community Fund of The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
