Signed Art Tour for the Hearing Impaired
Cedar Rapids, Iowa— Join a special guided tour of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) on Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. Not only will this tour be free and open to the public, but it will also be interpreted for the hearing impaired.
“This is the first of its kind here at the CRMA,” said Education Director, Erin Thomas. “I knew there was a need for it, but we initially had difficulty finding someone to translate the docent’s information.”
Thomas said she finally found success when she contacted Kirkwood Community College’s Sign Language Interpreter Training Program coordinator Linda Krog. "This is an exceptional opportunity for practicum students,” said Krog. “We were very anxious to be involved. The Kirkwood students are very excited! Thank you CRMA."
And no, you don’t have to be hearing impaired to enjoy this tour. “You can listen to the docent or watch the interpreter, or both,” said Thomas, “but it is above all about enjoying art.”
