SmArt Saturdays…Get Smart About Art

March 29, 2010
Cedar Rapids, Iowa—Get smart about art at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) with SmArt Saturdays! Join us on Saturday, April 3, 2010 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The activities for the day are outlined below:

Creative Connections-Artists in Action with Eric Gapstur, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Meet national award winning comic strip artist Eric Gapstur, who writes a strip about growing up in Belle Plaine, Iowa. See samples of his work, find out about his technique and ask about all the things you’re dying to know about writing and drawing a comic strip.

Creative Connections is a collaborative effort between the CRMA and local artists to reach and teach non-artists about the artistic processes. Come and learn from the pros, see how work is down and what it really takes to make great art. You are sure to discover “hidden treasures” among local artists who are creating truly amazing art. Come see some of their work and hear just how they do it! Creative Connections presentations are free!

Free Signed Tours for the Hearing Impaired, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
You don’t have to be hearing impaired to enjoy this special FREE guided tour with the CRMA’s knowledgeable docents and a Kirkwood sign language interpreter.

SmArties in the Carnegie, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Kids of all ages are invited to hang out in the Carnegie Library for free take-home art activities like making a comic strip or animated flipbook.
