More Free Programming at the CRMA!
Cedar Rapids, Iowa—The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) is excited to launch our next series of Doodlebugs preschool programs, as well as Art Bites and SmArt Saturdays!
The CRMA has teamed up with the Cedar Rapids Public Library (CRPL) and the Hiawatha Public Library (HPL) again to introduce a new series of
Doodlebugs preschool classes for your budding artist! Free art classes for preschoolers and their adult companions will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the first Friday (Cedar Rapids Public Library) and the final Friday (Hiawatha Library) of each month.
January 7: Chomper Pop-Ups (CRPL)
Make a pop-up animal with big chompers, just like the big-mouth animals in our story.
January 28: Pop-Downs (HPL)
Instead of art that pops up, make mobiles that pop down!
February 4: Have a Ball! (CRPL)
Make a spinning snowball craft as our story “snowballs” to a hilarious conclusion.
February 25: Fluttering Butterflies (HPL)
Make a fluttering one-of-a-kind butterfly with just some blobs of paint. Each one is unique!
March 4: Doodlebugs TV (CRPL)
What would happen if you climbed into your TV? Draw yourself in some crazy adventures!
March 25: Doodlebugs 3-D! (HPL)
After our 3-D story, see and make doodles that jump off the page, thanks to our cool 3-D specs!
April 1: Just Foolin’! (CRPL)
It’s April Fool’s Day and we’re playing tricks on our eyes! See things in a new way, and make Thaumatrope—a spinning optical illusion.
April 29: Poppin’ Puppets (HPL)
Say goodbye to our Wizards of Pop! Exhibition with one more pop-up project: puppets that
pop up.
We’re also excited to announce our next
Art Bites programs! Join us as our Executive Director and Curator provide a visual twist to the classic sound bite in a 15-minute discussion of an exhibition or art-related themes seen in several of the exhibitions. We’ll have a special guest too! All Art Bites programs begin at 12:15 p.m. and are free!
January 5: Art Bites with CRMA Executive Director, Terry Pitts
Terry will be discussing still life paintings by Grant Wood and Marvin Cone.
February 2: Art Bites with The Ceramics Center Executive Director, Ben Jensen
Ben will be discussing one of the CRMA’s newest exhibitions, A Show of Hands: Ceramics from the Collection.
SmArt Saturdays will continue into 2011 as well, taking place on the first Saturday of every month. SmArt Saturdays include a Creative Connections presentation by a local artist at 10:30 a.m. and SmArties—an afternoon of activities for the entire family—beginning at 1:00 p.m.
