Their Passion and How It Inspired Their Work

Cedar Rapids, Iowa— The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) will present BODIES: The Stunning Sculpture of Auguste Rodin and his Mistress, Camille Claudel “Their Passion and How It Inspired Their Work” on Sunday, April 6 beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Auguste Rodin, creator of the magnificent sculpture, “The Thinker,” was considered to be the premier French artist of his age and only second to Michelangelo in his enduring influence on sculpture. At mid life and mid career entered his muse and obsession, Camille Claudel. A legacy of work depicts the ecstasy and tragedy of their relationship.

This event will begin with a presentation by CRMA Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Sean Ulmer “Their Passion and How It Inspired Their Work” at 12:15 p.m. Following the presentation, there will be a free screening of Camille Claudel. This classic French film (with English subtitles) stars Gerard Depardieu and Isabel Adjiani. Viewers will explore the life of Camille, as the talented sculptress becomes Rodin’s student, collaborator, and mistress.
