Socially Distant Gala 2020
This year, due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, our traditional November Gala will take a new form. There will be no large gathering at the Cedar Rapids Country Club. There will be no traditional great food and drink. There will be no art or auctions.
Instead, we are asking you to support the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art with a direct donation. The 2020 CARES Act now allows for a $300 deductible charitable donation, even for those who do not normally itemize. We encourage you to consider a gift at that level. If our usual number of attendees each gave at that level, we would come close to the normal support we derive from this vital fundraising event. As a reminder, this is the Museum’s only fundraiser of the year, and we are so sad that we need to take this form for the Gala on this, our 125th anniversary year!
For those who give at the $300 (or more!) level, we have a special treat. Thanks to the generous support of our Co-Chairs, each donor or donor couple of $300 or more will receive a split of champagne and a selection of chocolates to enjoy while watching the premiere of a new video on the Museum, its history, and its collections. Our 125th anniversary is a perfect moment to celebrate the Museum, all from the comfort of your home.
PLEASE RESPOND BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2020.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CO-CHAIRS
For 125 years, Cedar Rapids has been fortunate to have an arts organization in its community. Beginning as a simple Art Club in 1895, the organization evolved to become the Cedar Rapids Art Association, then the Cedar Rapids Art Center, and finally the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Throughout its entire existence, it has had the unwavering goal of bringing people and art together. Even today, the institution is guided by its mission: to excite, engage, and education through the arts. We were pleased to be asked to co-chair this year’s Gala and were looking forward to celebrating the Museum’s 125th anniversary in a significant way at the Gala, but the realities of the COVID-19 virus, and the possible resurgence of it this fall, forced us to make the difficult decision to think differently about this critical fundraiser this year.
Please join us in celebrating this significant milestone in the Museum’s history with a cash gift in lieu of tickets, tuxes, new dresses, and auction items. It is no comparison to the fun-filled event that normally takes place, but we sincerely hope we will be able to do so again next year on November 5, 2021!
