By focusing each 20-minute program on one artwork, the audience engages in a conversation about the artist and how the selected work of art relates to their larger body of work. Join Executive Director Sean Ulmer as he takes an in-depth look at Mildred Pelzer’s mural, Symphony of Iowa, 1833-1933 (1935), which measures 6 ½ feet high by 10 feet wide.

Doodlebugs: Ballerina's Balance

Jul 19, 2022

In this session we’ll read poem-turned-picture-book Change Sings, written by Amanda Gorman, the youngest US inaugural poet in history, the first National Youth Poet Laureate, and the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl. Then we’ll play some word games which are designed for pre-literate kiddos, and turn those words into a potentially silly art project. Materials: Whatever art-making materials you like for drawing, and paper to draw on.
