From the Outside Looking In: Interior Spaces in Art
January 17 –May 3, 2026
Art is often thought of as something to adorn an interior space, but how do we understand works of art that use an interior space as the subject? Drawn from the permanent collection, this exhibition delves into the unique tension and charged atmosphere visible in works of art depicting interior spaces. Artists construct intimate settings that can feel at once very familiar and entirely foreign. Through these works, the viewer can begin to grasp the power of a depicted space.
This exhibition and accompanying educational programming have been made possible in part by a Program Support Grant from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, members of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and contributors to the Museum’s Annual Fund.
